CLOSING COPENHELL: CHOPPER UNVEILS “NEW BODY” SINGLE & VIDEO
Copenhagen-based industrial rock artist Chopper releases his single New Body, dropping just short of a month before closing out Denmark’s most legendary festival, in the coveted final Saturday slot at Copenhell 2026.
Fast becoming one of Denmark’s most unpredictable underground live acts, Chopper has been selected to shut down the festival’s Gehenna stage on June 27, a slot typically reserved for projects capable of leaving a lasting mark. New Body marks a direct escalation of scale and excess, with Chopper leaning fully into a role he was always meant to play.
Released alongside a striking music video, New Bodypulls viewers directly into Chopper’s feverish universe. Visually explosive and deeply unsettling, it unfolds like a distorted childhood memory, with Chopper pushing the construction of identity to the point of no return, creating a version of self that once existed only as projection.
“Growing up on MTV, I was obsessed with the Hollywood lifestyle and the people on the screen who lived it,” Chopper says. “Sex, money, murder, all of it. I wasn’t part of that world, I was just watching it. I wanted to give up everything to become just that. New Body is about crossing that line. About stepping into that version of yourself, for real.”
Chopper is the playfully dark and danceable project of Danish artist Jonatan K. Magnussen. A tragic pop idol caught between glamour and decay, he operates within a feverish blend of post-punk, industrial glam and disco noir.
In the past years he and his band The Gang of Chopz have toured across Europe, sold out shows in Denmark. This summer culminates in the project’s biggest live moment to date, with Chopper closing Copenhell 2026 on Saturday June 27 at midnight on the Gehenna stage.
New Body is out everywhere, alongside the official music video.
Chopper is the playfully dark and danceable project of Danish artist Jonatan K. Magnussen. A tragic pop idol caught between glamour and decay, he operates within a feverish blend of post-punk, industrial glam and disco noir. Known for theatrical live shows and striking visuals, Chopper transforms the stage into something between a rock concert and a fever dream in a charged mix of beauty, chaos, and confession.
Over the past few years, he and his band The Gang of Chopz have toured across Europe, sold out shows in Denmark, and garnered international coverage from outlets including Post-Punk.com, Gonzai and Zero Mag, earning a reputation as one of Scandinavia’s most distinctive underground acts.
Rooted in Magnussen’s fascination with B-movie horror and early 2000s pop culture, Chopper lives at the intersection of nostalgia and deconstruction, driven by a controlled collision of sound, image, and persona. With each release, his mythology expands in a grotesque, yet unmistakably human way. More than just a music project, Chopper is a full-blown performance universe - a living commentary on fame, ego, and excess.
Following a string of acclaimed releases, including Shock Pop – The Album (2024), Chopper returns on May 29 with the single New Body, arriving ahead of the project’s biggest live moment to date. On June 27, Chopper will shut down Copenhell 2026, taking the final slot of the festival’s final night. This show places the project on its biggest stage to date, where its scale, sonically and visually, will be pushed to its absolute most extreme.
